High molecular polymers containing carbonate groups in the molecular chain can be classified into aliphatic, aromatic, and aliphatic-aromatic types according to the structure of the ester group. Among them, due to the low mechanical properties of aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic polycarbonates, their application in engineering plastics is limited. Only aromatic polycarbonates have been produced industrially.
