The semiconductor mask aligner is a device that uses ultraviolet wavelength excimer laser to remove the protective film on the wafer surface through the template.

A mask aligner is a precision machine tool used in the semiconductor manufacturing process to transfer patterns onto wafers or substrates; these patterns are on the micro- and nano-scale. The pattern (structure) is created using the shadow transfer method, where the pattern to be printed (photomask) is placed between the light source and the substrate (wafer) to be patterned. The substrate being patterned is first coated with a photosensitive material (photoresist), which then reacts to the light projected from the shadow image. The resulting patterns are then developed using specific chemicals. Mask aligners enable photolithography to be used to produce semiconductor devices such as transistors, sensors and medical components.
