Personalized medicine is attracting attention as medical care that delivers highly effective treatments and prevention with fewer side effects based on each patient's constitution and pathological condition. Traditionally, companion diagnostics have been used to test for specific genetic mutations before treatment and select suitable therapeutic drugs. In recent years, the use of gene panel testing capable of comprehensive genetic analysis using next generation sequencing (NGS), as well as liquid biopsy that obtains genetic information from bodily fluids such as blood and urine, has progressed, advancing more comprehensive and minimally invasive personalized medicine.
At the 10 major companies, joint development of CDx with external companies, expansion into the minimal residual disease (MRD) and early detection markets, and use of data and AI technologies are important points. Through collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, advances in MRD testing technology, and the use of AI technologies and real world data (RWD), the implementation of personalized medicine is expanding, testing areas are broadening, and a structural transition to a business that provides integrated data and analysis is underway.
